چکیده

WALKER, D. A. 1987. Height and growth rings of Salix lanata ssp. richardsonii along the coastal temperature gradient of northern Alaska. Can. J. Bot. 65: 988-993. Salix lanata ssp. richardsonii from open-tundra and streamside populations were studied at seven sites along a 100-km north-south transect following the Sagavanirktok River from the Alaskan arctic coast to the foothills of the Brooks Range. Mean July temperatures along this transect vary from 2.6 at the coast to 10°C at the base of the foothills. Mean maximum heights of the sampled open-tundra willows increased from 10 + 2 at the coast to 37 + 8 cm at the southern end of the transect. Mean maximum heights of sampled streamside willows increased from 0 at the coast to 147 i 25 cm. The mean maximum height of willows in both habitats showed very strong correlations with thawing degree-days. Mean growth-ring widths increased from 92 + 20 at the coast to 188 i 57 pm at the southern end of the transect and were also highly correlated with the temperature gradient. The results are discussed in light of other arctic studies of willow growth rings and Cantlon's system of vegetation subdivisions within the Alaskan arctic.

"Divergence problem" in estimating temperature based on tree rings (Case study: Juniper mountainous habitats in northern Kerman province)

Introduction The study of tree rings is one of the most widely used methods of climate reconstruction for centuries and millennia, but the occurrence of climatic anomalies such as global warming in recent decades has caused divergence problem in the series of tree rings in some areas. Which challenges the ability of this proxy to regenerate the climate. The “divergence problem” is the differen...

Preliminary study on the growth development of blood cockle (Tegillarca granosa) by using different substrates in the hatchery system

Culturing of bivalves in the hatchery is the most popular technique for aquaculture that promotes a healthy bivalvechr('39')s production, where the animal would be less exposed to pollution from human activities. The increase of industrial and agricultural waste along the coastal region has altered the environment, hence affecting the growth and survival of aquatic organisms, particularly clams...

مطالعه اثر متغیرهای اقلیمی (دما و بارندگی) بر پهنای دوایر سالانه کاج بروسیا Pinus brutia در استان لرستان

Trees have been affected by environmental changes, including climatic conditions. Thus, the study on anatomical and morphological characteristics of tree rings provides the possibility of climate study. The present investigation aimed to study the effect at climatic factors such as temperature (maximum, medium and minimum), precipitation on the growth rings of Pinus brutia. 30 Pinus brutia tree...

Response of green alder (Alnus viridis subsp. fruticosa) patch dynamics and plant community composition to fire and regional temperature in north?western Canada

Results Mean summer temperature across the study area decreased by 3 C per degree of increasing latitude (6 C across the study area). In the northern part of the study area, where seed viability was low, alder was less dominant than at southern sites where seed viability was high. The age structure of alder populations across the temperature gradient was highly variable, except in the northern ...

تأثیر جهت دامنه، اقلیم (دما و بارندگی) و خاک بر پهنای دوایر سالیانه گونه زغال‌اخته در جنگل‌های ارسباران (شمال غرب ایران)

Cornalian cherry (Cornus mas L.) is a native woody species in Arasbaran, N.W. Iran. It commonly grows as a wild tree on the forest edges and in forest openings areas. In this study, the influence of physiographic and environmental factors such as aspect, climate (temperature, precipitation) and physical and chemical properties of soil on the tree ring width of Cornalian cherry was examined and ...
